Projects

Projects begin simple and gradually increase in complexity and capability. This learning process will be documented so you can follow along if you wish. Details (such as software installation, use) are omitted here - you can find those elsewhere (and as a former teacher, too tedious for me to cover)

 VR Project 1

360 Photo Rendering

(2016-05-23) The first project at this time is to create a room in Blender and render it to a 360 photo image that can be viewed in Samsung Gear VR and Google Cardboard.

PDF - Not ready yet...

Steps

1. Creation of the room involves standard 3D design, modeling, materials, texturing, layout, lighting. Since this will be pre-rendered to an image (not in real-time) there are no real limitations on the complexity and details.

2. Rendering with a standard camera will give a flat image from the camera direction. A 360 image is generally either a cube map or a sphere. Special rendering techniques can create these (or they could be created by "stitching" together individual images)

 VR Project 2

180 3D Video

(2016-05-23) The second project is to use Blender to create a 180° Stereoscopic video.

PDF - Not ready yet...

Steps

1. This can use the room from Project 1 with some animation.

2. Rendering needs to use 2 cameras separated by the inter-ocular distance, rendered into a side-by-side animation.
